Cabin vs ChatGPT for personal decisions

ChatGPT is a general assistant that can help with almost anything, and for most tasks it is the more capable tool. Cabin does one thing: it helps you talk through personal decisions, replying in two or three lines with an honest opinion, in English, Hindi or Hinglish, with memory you can read and delete.

The short version

If you want one tool for writing, coding, research, summarising documents and everything else, ChatGPT is the obvious choice, and Cabin is not trying to compete with it. If what you want is a calm place to think out loud about a personal decision and get a short, honest reply, Cabin is built only for that. Plenty of people use both.

The rest of this page goes into the differences in more detail and tries to be fair about them. Where we describe how ChatGPT works, we link to the source and note the date, because its features change often.

Built for everything vs built for one thing

ChatGPT is designed to be useful across an enormous range of tasks. That breadth is its real strength. It also means its defaults are tuned for the general case, where thorough and accommodating answers are usually what people are looking for.

Cabin is narrow on purpose. It is built for the everyday decisions and thoughts that keep circling: whether to take the job, how to handle a family expectation, why a small choice has been stuck for weeks. Everything about it, from reply length to tone, is shaped around that single use.

How long the answers are

You can ask ChatGPT to keep things brief, and it will. Cabin simply starts short. By default it replies in two or three lines with an actual opinion and usually one question, and you ask for more if you want more.

For a personal decision, that default matters more than it sounds. A short reply with a clear point gives you something to react to straight away. A long, balanced answer can feel thorough and still leave you exactly where you started.

Agreeing with you

Any assistant built to be helpful has to balance being supportive with being honest. In April 2025, OpenAI rolled back an update to GPT-4o after people noticed ChatGPT had become overly flattering and agreeable. Explaining what went wrong, OpenAI said it had focused too much on short-term feedback, and noted that people had started using ChatGPT for deeply personal advice (TechCrunch, as of 29 April 2025). The company then committed to changes in how it tests and releases model updates (TechCrunch, as of 2 May 2025).

We are not claiming ChatGPT behaves that way today. The point is that for a general assistant, supportiveness is a setting it has to balance across everything it does. Cabin is designed specifically not to agree with you just to be nice about a personal decision. If your reasoning holds up, it says so. If you seem to be avoiding the real question, it says that too.

How memory works in each

Both remember things about you, and they go about it differently.

As of 13 September 2026, ChatGPT has saved memories, which are individual details you can view, edit and delete. It also has a separate ability to reference your past chat history, which is not presented as a list you edit (MemX, as of 13 September 2026). In June 2026 OpenAI began rolling out an update, first to Plus and Pro users in the US, that builds and revises what ChatGPT remembers in the background across your conversations (mem0, as of June 2026).

In Cabin, what it remembers about you is shown as a list you can read line by line, and you can delete any line. It focuses on patterns in how you think and decide, such as whether you do better after sleeping on something, rather than general details about your life.

Which approach suits you is personal. Some people like an assistant that quietly builds up context. Others want to see exactly what is being kept. Both products let you delete what they have saved.

Language

ChatGPT works in many languages, including Hindi. Cabin is built with Hinglish in mind, the mix of Hindi and English that most people in India actually think and type in, so you can write the way it sits in your head without switching into formal English first.

Where ChatGPT is the better choice

To be straightforward about it, ChatGPT is the better choice when you need:

Cabin does none of those things. If most of what you want from AI is on that list, ChatGPT will serve you better, and that is a perfectly good reason to use it.

Where Cabin fits

Cabin is worth trying when:

Using both

Many people keep using ChatGPT for work and everyday tasks and open Cabin when something personal is on their mind. The two are not mutually exclusive. Cabin is free to start in your browser or on Android. Paid plans add more messages a day and remove ads, and they are on the pricing page.

How to decide which one to open

A simple way to choose: if the task has a right answer or a finished output, like a document, some code or a summary, open ChatGPT. If the thing on your mind is a choice only you can make, and you mostly need to think it through with something honest, open Cabin.

If you are not sure which kind of problem it is, that uncertainty is often a sign it is the second kind.

What Cabin is not

Cabin is not therapy and it is not a crisis service. It is a calm place to think things through. If you are going through something serious, please speak to a qualified professional or a helpline. In India, Tele-MANAS is available on 14416, free and around the clock.
